A boat dealer or manufacturer may apply for a dealer’s boat number or numbers. This is a number that is issued to the dealer or manufacturer rather than to a boat. This number may be used on any boat owned by a dealer or manufacturer while the boat is being demonstrated. A validation sticker and a certificate of number will be issued to the dealer or manufacturer.

The boat number and validation sticker must be displayed either on the boat or on a removable plate attached firmly to both sides of the forward half of the boat. The fees are the same as a regular boat registration and each registration is valid for three years. The boat number may only be used when the boat is being demonstrated. By regulation, “Demonstration” is defined as:

“demonstrate means to operate a boat, that is required to have a certificate of number under AS 05.25, on the waters of the state for the purpose of selling, transferring, bartering, negotiating or attempting to negotiate the sale or exchange of any interest in a new or used boat, including the operation of a boat by a manufacturer for the purposes of testing the boat. The term does not include the operation of a boat for personal purposes by a dealer or manufacturer or an employee of a dealer or manufacturer, or by the friends or family of those persons.”

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

1. Complete a Boat Registration Application (Form 02-841).

• The boat description portion will be left blank.
• The location of the dealer’s or manufacturer’s place of business must be placed in the residence address portion of the application.

2. Pay the appropriate fees for the class of boat. (B-43)
