When boat ownership is transferred to a new owner, the new owner must apply for a new Certificate of number within 30 days. The fee for transfer of ownership is the same as the fee for a three-year registration. Each time the ownership is changed the new owner will start a new three-year registration period. None of the remaining months on the old registration will transfer to the new owner since the fee for transfer is the same as the fee for a new registration period. APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
ADDING OR DELETING OWNER If a registered owner is adding or deleting an owner’s name from the registration record, this is not considered a transfer of ownership. The owner must complete an application (Form 02-841) and pay only the $5.00 fee for a replacement registration. The expiration month of the boat registration would remain the same unless the person is renewing at the same time. If the person is renewing at the same time, charge only the registration fee for the appropriate class of boat. In this case charge only the registration fee and not the replacement registration fee.
