A boat owned by the federal, state, or local government is exempt from registration and numbering. If a government agency wishes to register a boat or renew an existing registration, it may do so. There is no exemption from fees or special fees for a government agency. The government agency would have to comply with the normal procedures for initial registration or renewal of registration and pay the appropriate fees. (See B-43 for fees.)
