All boat records are public records and may be released. The only information collected in the registration process that is not subject to release is the Social Security Number (SSN). The SSN will be used to link boat records to the driver license and vehicle databases. The public boat record does not contain the SSN and that is the only record that may be released by on-line offices. The detail record does contain the SSN and that record will not be released. The fee for each record is $10.00. (See B-43 for other fees.)

The provisions of the federal Driver Privacy Protection Act do not apply to boat records. By state law, all information on the record except the SSN may be released. This includes the mailing and residence addresses.

The Division will make copies of the complete data base available on electronic media. Requests for the complete database should be sent to the director. See Appendix A for current address.
