Statute: AS Regulation: AAC

When a customer registers a boat for the first time as a non-powered boat, ask if it is possible that they may use auxiliary power at any time during the registration period. If they decide that they may use auxiliary power, the boat will need to be registered as a powered boat. Follow the steps outlined below if a customer changes the status of the boat during a registration period.

REMOVED AUXILIARY POWER (B1 to B2):

  • No immediate action needed.
  • When boat is renewed, customer would complete a new application with the correct information and pay the appropriate fees, or may elect not to renew. Registration of non-powered boats is not required, with the exception of boats used by Sport Fishing Guides.  Per AS 16.05.395, Sport Fishing Guides are not required to pay the registration fee to register non-powered boats.

ADDED AUXILIARY POWER (B2 to B1):

  • Customer must change class code and pay appropriate fees before using the boat with auxiliary power.
  • Charge powered boat fees and start the registration over.
  • No refunds will be given for unused registration.
