Fees | Plates

A taxicab is a passenger vehicle, maintained for hire, which does not operate over a scheduled route. (See R-115 for information on limousines.)

SALE OF VEHICLE:

  • USED AS A TAXICAB: The applicant must make a statement in the affidavit section of the Application for Title and Registration (Form 812). Example: “Vehicle will be used as a taxicab.”
  • NOT USED AS A TAXICAB: Change the class code to the appropriate code for the vehicle type. Replace “For Hire” plates with standard issue plates, if applicable.

CHANGE OF USE, SAME OWNER:

  • TO TAXICAB: A Vehicle Transaction Application (Form 821) with a statement that the vehicle will be used as a taxicab. Registration starts over. Full fees must be paid and meet other requirements of registration.
  • FROM TAXICAB: Submit a Vehicle Transaction Application (Form 821) and make a statement that the vehicle will no longer be used as a taxicab. Replace “For Hire” plates with passenger plates, if applicable.

*PLATES

Previous plates (ZZD123 - ZZE999) were issued with “For Hire” printed below the number. These plates are valid as long as the vehicle is being used as a taxicab.

PLATE TYPE NUMBER: 8235000

When changing the ownership and/or class of a taxicab, the registration month remains the same, unless the registration has been expired over a year or when changing from regular use to taxicab.
