There are two types of trip permits available for motor vehicle operators, which allow the movement of specific vehicles for a limited amount of time, in lieu of an Alaska registration:

  • One-Way Trip Permit (Form 817)

Trip permits are not to be issued in order to circumvent normal registration procedures.

NON-RESIDENT COMMERCIAL VEHICLE PERMIT

These permits allow the temporary operation of commercial vehicles in Alaska. The vehicles must be currently registered in another jurisdiction. The applicant must present a copy or the original of the current registration for verification. These permits are valid for 30 days from the date of issuance.

If the vehicle will be operated more than 30 days in Alaska, it may be beneficial to obtain a regular registration. This may be accomplished through normal registration procedures (R-105) or Dual Registration (R-345).
