A bonded motor vehicle dealer that is registered with the State of Alaska, Division of Motor Vehicles, may obtain Dealer Plates for use in the normal course of the dealer's business.

These plates are to be used on vehicles owned by the dealer or dealership, and can only be used for the following specified reasons:

  • Transporting an unregistered vehicle from a port of entry to the dealer facilities.
  • Transporting a vehicle from one registered dealer to another registered dealer.
  • Transporting a house trailer from the retail facility to the trailer space.
  • Normal business activities excluding use on service vehicles.
  • Once a dealer sells a vehicle, dealer plates may be placed on the vehicle and used by the new owner for no longer than five (5) days after the date of sale.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Applicant must be a registered and bonded motor vehicle dealer. (Check current list)
  • NEW - Request on letterhead. Must include: Dealership Name, Dealer Number, Mailing and Business Addresses, Signature and Date. (Processed at Anchorage Dealer Fleet – See Appendix A)
  • RENEWAL - Supply a list of license plates to be renewed. (Any office can process. Must check the Dealer list before processing to assure they have renewed their Dealer Bond.)

Note: As these plates are issued to businesses and not vehicles, use two asterisk (**) in place of the last two digits of the VIN when making entries in ALVIN.
