Special plates are available for veterans of the armed forces. We currently have personalized and non-personalized Vet vehicle plates, except for ARMY plates. All ARMY plates must be ordered as personalized plates. (Motorcycle plates are only available as personalized plates.) These procedures apply to both types of plates. Applicants must provide proof they have served or are currently serving in one of the branches of the armed forces in order to qualify for these plates. Once an applicant has proven they are eligible for Vet plates, they may obtain additional sets of plates for other vehicles titled in their name by providing the license plate number of the plate they already own. There is not a limit to the amount of Vet plates allowed per customer.
PROOF OF SERVICE:
- Copy of applicant’s DD 214. If there is a reference to an attachment, it is not required.
- A letter of verification from the Veterans Administration.
- Active duty military identification.
- Retiree ID Card.

*An individual who qualifies for a disability plate is eligible for ONE exemption. Use class code DD (Qualifies for wheelchair logo) or DV (Does not qualify for wheelchair logo) when the exemption is taken on a vehicle with Veteran plates. (See R-327 for further information.)
The $30.00 fee [AS 28.10.421(d)(2)(B)] is charged at the time of initial application and for replacement plates. When issuing a new set of plates, the only plate fee is for the actual plates. Do not charge a plate replacement fee or plate transfer fee. This fee is in addition to the normal registration fees charged for a vehicle. The registration fees shown above are for non-commercial vehicles. For leased vehicles and commercial vehicles, use class codes 91-94 or 41-44.
THE REGISTRATION MONTH AND YEAR START OVER AND
FULL FEES MUST BE PAID WHEN A CLASS DD OR DV IS SOLD.
THE REGISTRATION MONTH AND YEAR REMAIN THE SAME
FOR ALL OTHER VEHICLE CLASSES.
