Control VIN's

ASSIGNED VIN’S: Assigned vehicle identification numbers (VIN) are preprinted stickers with an AK prefix followed by a control number. These numbers are assigned to vehicles that have been homebuilt or vehicles having a VIN that has been altered, removed, or defaced. A vehicle inspection may be required to verify there is not a VIN. An Alaska VIN sticker may be assigned by any DMV Representative. The assigned number becomes the permanent VIN of the vehicle. In addition to having the sticker affixed to the vehicle the number on the sticker should be engraved or stamped onto the vehicle.

Note: These stickers are RED. When entering the assigned VIN, use the AK as part of the number. Example: AK1026459

CONTROL VIN’S: Replacement/restoration VIN stickers are requested when the VIN is known but is not on the vehicle. A vehicle inspection may be required to determine the need for the new VIN sticker. VIN stickers are issued by state DMV offices only, but may be requested from a law enforcement representative or from a commissioned agent.

You must include the following information with your request:

1. The reason the VIN sticker is needed.
2. Who is requesting the new VIN sticker.
3. The year, make, and model of the vehicle.
4. The name of the registered owner(s).
5. The VIN being requested.
6. Confirmation of inspection and who inspected the vehicle, if applicable.
7. The name of the authorizing supervisor.

NOTE: These stickers are RED. The control VIN will be stamped in the box on the sticker.

NOTE: Lyle Davis (Retired APD Officer) has been authorized by DMV to perform VIN inspections for verification of correct VIN, reconstructed, rebuilt and specially constructed vehicles. We will accept VIN Verification or Inspection forms which bear his name and signature.

Mr. Davis performs inspections as a business and therefore charges his customers for the service. He has extensive training, experience and knowledge in locating hidden VINS. He will go to a customer’s place of business or residence to perform inspections.
