When you renew over the Internet, you do not pay the additional $10.00 registration fee. Only the actual fees that apply to your vehicle will be displayed on this system. For example: A non-commercial vehicle registration fee is $100.00. If you renew in person at a State DMV office, the registration fee would be $110.00.
Please note that there may be a temporary charge of $1.11 that will appear on your debit/credit card pending transactions screen in addition to any other DMV service fee. This charge will disappear after the transaction is completed.
PLEASE UPDATE YOUR ADDRESS BEFORE YOU RENEW ONLINE
IF YOUR ADDRESS HAS CHANGED SINCE YOUR LAST RENEWAL
Your address must be correct on DMV records in order to renew over the Internet. If you renew over the Internet and your address is incorrect, there is a $5.00 fee to obtain a replacement tab if you do not receive the registration and tab. The easiest way to know if it is correct is whether or not you received a registration PRE-BILL (renewal notice). If you did not, or if your pre-bill was forwarded from your previous address, please update your address before using our online services.
If you are renewing the registration on more than one vehicle, the address must be updated on each individual record as your records are not linked.
If you are leasing your vehicle, the registration and tab will be mailed to the address shown on DMV records. This is normally the mailing address of the leasing company as they are the legal owner of the vehicle. Please see the following information for renewal procedures: RENEWAL OPTIONS
If your registration is expired or due to expire within 30 days and your address is incorrect or may be incorrect on our records, please update your address before you attempt to renew. If you are unable to change the address online, please E-mail ALASKA DMV for procedures before you renew the registration. Please provide:
Please wait for a reply before you renew.
Vehicles are registered for a two year period. Normally a vehicle is assigned an expiration date when the vehicle is first registered in Alaska and retains that month when ownership changes. A vehicle that has been expired for less than a full year is charged the full biennial fee beginning with the month the registration expired, even if an individual has just purchased the vehicle and the previous owner let the vehicle expire, or the vehicle has been parked while it was expired. The registration starts over when it has been expired for over an entire year or when the previous owner was exempt from registration fees (Senior Exemption, Disability Plates, etc.)
