Transferring
Plate(s) to Another Vehicle
In order to transfer license plates, both
vehicles must be registered in your name. For a vehicle that
has just been purchased, you may request a plate transfer when
you apply for title and/or registration in your name.
A $5.00 transfer fee applies to the following
types of plates:
Personalized, Veteran, University, Children's
Trust, Charitable Exempt, Non-Profit, Government Exempt, National
Guard, Purple Heart and Amateur Radio*.
*Contact DMV for additional requirements to transfer Amateur
Radio plates.
There is not a transfer fee for the following
types of plates:
Disabled Vet, Disability, Prisoner of
War, Pearl Harbor Survivor
NO OTHER TYPES
OF PLATES CAN BE TRANSFERRED.
Transferring plate(s) from a vehicle registered in
your name to another vehicle that is registered in your
name. (Can be processed through the mail.)
1) Vehicle
Transaction Application (Make a statement in the comments
section that you wish to transfer your plate, and specify the
complete, correct plate number.)
2) Copies of the ALASKA registrations for the vehicle the plate is
being transferred from, as well as the one it is being transferred to or
a letter that includes the serial numbers and descriptions of the vehicles.
3) $5.00 personalized check or money order, if applicable.
Transferring plate(s) from a vehicle registered in
your name to a vehicle that you have just purchased and are
transferring to your name. (Cannot be processed through
the mail.)
1) Application for Title and Registration PDF WORD
(Make a statement in the affidavit section that you wish to transfer your
plate, and specify the complete, correct plate number.)
2) Copies of the registrations for the vehicle the plate is being transferred
from, as well as the one it is being transferred to or a letter that includes
the serial numbers and descriptions of the vehicles.
3) $5.00 personalized check or money order, if applicable.
Please do not place the new plate on the
vehicle until you receive the new registration and tabs for the plate(s).
