Registered
in Alaska - Renewing from Outside of Alaska
This section is designed for Alaska residents
on vacation outside of Alaska. If you are Active Duty Military
or an Alaska resident attending College outside of Alaska, please

Following are the current options for
you to renew your registration (vehicle, snow vehicle, ATV, or
trailer). Please begin the process early, if possible,
so that you will be assured that you have the new registration before
the current registration expiration date. All registrations
expire on the LAST day of the registration month.
Please be aware that these procedures
do NOT apply to boats. Boats must be registered in the state
of primary use.
Be sure to update the ADDRESS on the previous registration or provide it in a letter so that we will know where to mail your registration.
Currently Outside Alaska on Vacation:
If your legal residence address
is within the Municipality of Anchorage and your vehicle
is subject to emissions
requirements, the following items must be mailed to the address
shown on the Application for Outside Use Waiver:
- Application
for Outside Use Wavier, completed
in full and notarized.
- Check or money order in the amount
of $18.00, payable to the Municipality of Anchorage OR a
copy of a current I/M test from the area in which the vehicle
is located.
- Proof that the vehicle is outside of
Alaska (not needed if I/M test is provided). Items that may be
acceptable include a repair order with identifying vehicle numbers
on it, shipping
invoices or parking receipts that indicate vehicle numbers
or something else that will provide sufficient evidence of the
vehicle's location. If you have further questions of the waiver

- Copy of last Alaska vehicle registration
or a letter requesting to renew the vehicle.
- Check or money order
in the amount of $____ (see
fees) payable to DMV.
- Cover letter to DMV requesting your
registration and tab be mailed outside of Alaska. Be sure to clearly
print the complete address that you would like it to be mailed
to.
If your legal
residence address is NOT within the Municipality of Anchorage:
- Make a copy of your last registration OR complete
a Vehicle
Transaction Application OR send
a letter requesting to renew. Include the license plate
number and description of the vehicle in your letter.
- Personalized
check or money order. Click

- Provide a self-addressed envelope
or a cover letter advising where you would like the registration
and tab mailed to.
