Foreign Nationals Residing in Alaska Qualify as Residents
Foreign nationals with authorization to work in the United States who are currently domiciled in Alaska meet the Alaska Residency requirements for employment with the State of Alaska. This means that they can apply for jobs open to Alaska Residents Only and mark that they meet the residency requirements by being domiciled in Alaska.

The definition of Alaska Resident for purposes of employment with the State of Alaska can be established in one of the following ways:
- The applicant is domiciled in the state of Alaska, or
- The applicant is presently serving in the military with the intent of being domiciled in the state of Alaska upon completion of military duty, or
- The applicant has graduated from an accredited high school or post-secondary institution in the state of Alaska, or has earned a General Equivalency Diploma (GED) while domiciled in the state of Alaska, or
- The applicant is presently enrolled in a post-secondary institution in the state of Alaska and not enrolled solely in on-line classes.
Residency Exceptions
The following groups will be considered a resident for employment purposes.
- A non-resident displaced to any area of the United States by a natural disaster, with proof of residence from the area declared to be a natural disaster by the President of the United States, will be considered a resident for employment purposes for a 12-month period following the declaration.
