The Division is planning a Benefits Fair for the Kenai Peninsula. The fair will be held in Soldotna March 21 through 23. Additional information will be provided in the coming months.
IRS Has Announced Changes and Expansion of Eligibility
The IRS has announced changes to the Voluntary Classification Settlement Program, which provides partial relief from federal employment taxes to eligible taxpayers that agree to prospectively treat workers as employees. The IRS has also announced (Announcement 2012-46, 2102-51 IRB 725) the expansion of eligibility for the voluntary classification settlement program (VCSP) through June 30, 2013.
Share with Employees in the Defined Benefit Plans
PERS and TRS Information Handbooks are available online. Since the Division no longer prints the handbooks for distribution, it is important to share these links with employees on a regular basis. The information in the handbooks is valuable and clearly explains the PERS (Tier I, II, and III) and TRS (Tiers I and II) programs for employees.
Employees can request hard copies of the PERS or TRS Handbook via email or by calling (800) 821-2251, statewide or (907) 465-4460, in Juneau.
February 12 and 13 at the Marriott in Anchorage
Alaska Retirement Management Board (ARMB) meetings are open to the public. Minutes of past meetings and meeting agendas can be found online. If you have questions, email Judy Hall, ARMB liaison, or call (907) 465-3749.
Each year, the Alaska Retirement Management Board (ARMB) must report on the financial condition of the state’s retirement systems. Per Alaska Statute 37.10.220(a)(13), this report must be given to the governor, the legislature, and the individual employers participating in the systems. This letter from Department of Revenue Commissioner, Bryan Butcher (who is also a trustee on the ARMB), directs you to the location of audited financial statements, information on performance returns on each system, asset allocations, investment guidelines and policies and procedures, as well as monthly and year-to-date financial reports.
