This fall, you may notice changes throughout State offices. From banners to posters, the AlaskaCare Employee Wellness Program is rolling out in an office space near you.

Investing in your health is an investment in our plan’s future. The wellness program focuses on promoting individual responsibility for personal health and providing effective tools and support to help you reach and maintain your health goals.


Employee Health Plan members and dependents can access a variety of tools and programs available to improve overall well-being and to manage chronic illnesses including One-on-One Personal Wellness Coaches, Tobacco Cessation, Nurse Line, Mother and Child and more. Wellness Committee Selected

We are excited to announce thirteen employees have been selected to serve on the AlaskaCare Employee Wellness Committee. These motivated and exceptional individuals are located across the state and come from diverse backgrounds. Committee members are a resource for you and your colleagues. You can be a Wellness Champion – sign up today!

Learn how to take charge of your health and inspire others to do the same by signing up as a Wellness Champion. As a Wellness Champion, you will have a role in promoting workplace wellness by:

  • Motivating your peers through program participation
  • Promoting Monthly Challenges and other activities in your workplace – posters and other communications will be provided by the Wellness team
  • Identifying ways to customize activities so they resonate with participants in your workplace
  • Sharing your office success stories and lessons learned

To sign up, simply email the Wellness team and you will be placed on the mailing list. You will receive email updates about the AlaskaCare Employee Wellness activities and additional support materials for outreach efforts in your office.


Meet the Wellness Team

Mike DiFilippo

Mike DiFilippo, the Wellness Coordinator for HealthSmart, provides Personal Wellness coaching for AlaskaCare Employee Health Plan members. As a registered dietician, he also offers nutritional counseling sessions, Lunch-n-Learn webinars, and spearheads the Monthly Wellness Challenge program.

Originally from Washington, Mike moved to Alaska upon acceptance to the Dietetic Internship Program at University of Alaska Anchorage. Mike holds a B.S. in Food Science & Human Nutrition and a M.S. in Food Science from Washington State University. He’s a Registered Dietitian with the Commission of Dietetic Registration and is a Licensed Dietitian with the State of Alaska.

Mike joined HealthSmart in 2012 and spent the prior two years working as a Health Promotion Specialist with BP Exploration (Alaska), Inc. To stay healthy, Mike enjoys trail running, cooking, camping, hunting, and spending time with family.

Has a colleague inspired you to become a healthier, happier person? Has someone impressed you with improvements or changes to their lifestyle? Let us know who you admire and respect so we can acknowledge their achievements by nominating them as a Health Hero. With their permission, Health Heroes will be featured in our electronic newsletters, on our Facebook page, and at To nominate a Health Hero, email our Wellness team with their name, contact information, and a short explanation of what makes them a Health Hero.


Boost Your Exercise and Nutrition Awareness

Start your fall season on the right foot with a 12-week guide to improving your health through exercise and nutrition. Beginning September 10, HealthSmart will kick off the first 12-week Wellness Education Program. The program features self-directed health education activities guiding you to a healthier lifestyle. Each program provides a workbook with instructions and assignments designed to help you to improve your health and make positive changes. One section per week will be emailed to you throughout the 12–week program.

Weight Watchers At Work Coming to a Location Near You

Learn how to achieve and maintain your weight goals through a pilot Weight Watchers At Work program. During the month of September, AlaskaCare Employee Health Plan members can enroll in the State of Alaska Weight Watchers At Work program and have their monthly fee waived for a 26-week period as long as they meet the participation requirements.
