Marriage Before Retirement
If you are an active employee and have recently married you should submit your marital status change and, if appropriate, name change to your employer. Your records with the PERS will be updated with the first payroll report your employer submits to the division after you advise them of the change.
If you are a PERS deferred member (contributions in the PERS but not actively contributing) and have recently married, you should submit a copy of your marriage certificate along with a written request for a marital status change and, if appropriate, name change to the Division of Retirement and Benefits.
You should also update your beneficiary designations at this time, both with the PERS and with other benefit plans in which you participate.
