Network Services (NET) provides network resources and internet access for state government and partner agencies. These services include network monitoring and problem management, together with application availability. NET also manages the statewide technology backbone providing digital connectivity for voice, data and video transmission. A portion of this backbone is a system of copper, fiber and point-to-point microwave communications, the State of Alaska Telecommunications System (SATS). It connects over two hundred sites primarily located along the main road systems from Fairbanks to Kodiak and Cordova. Within and between the major cities and rural communities, SATS carries a variety of customer traffic including all voice, data and video traffic between Anchorage and Fairbanks.
