Violent Crimes Compensation Board

 

 Are you the victim of a violent crime?  Financial assistance may be available to help pay for your crime related expenses. The Violent Crimes Compensation Board provides limited financial help to victims. The financial loss has to be the direct result of a violent crime and not reimbursable through another source such as insurance or worker’s compensation. The maximum that may be awarded is $40,000.

Am I Eligible?

  • Violent crime against the person. Property crimes are not included.
  • Crime must have occurred in Alaska within past 2 years.
  • Crime reported to law enforcement within 5 days of crime.
  • Must cooperate with law enforcement and prosecution.
  • Must not have provoked or contributed to incident resulting in injury or death.

  • Counseling
  • Lost wages
  • Funeral
  • Security
  • Relocation
  • Transportation and trial attendance costs
  • Loss of support for dependents of homicide victim
