Live-in Care Giver

The Board recognizes that sometimes it is in the best interest of a crime victim to be cared for by a loved one. The Board also recognizes that this may cause a financial hardship. Therefore, the Board considers paying reasonable associated costs.

Policy

Adopted 6-26-07

The Board may award the costs associated with a live-in care giver when such care has been prescribed or suggested in writing by a medical doctor. The Board is a payer of last source. If a family member or friend agrees to provide such service and is not a certified medical health care provider, then the Board will consider awarding service costs at a rate per hour consistent with the current minimum wage and based on a forty hour week. The length of time the Board considers paying will be limited to no more then two years after the date of the incident.
