Reinstate Your Driving Privileges
When you lose your privilege to drive in Alaska, your license is revoked and your driving record will show that the state has taken action against your license.
When you take the steps needed to get your license back, you are reinstating your driver's license or privilege to drive.
The process for reinstated your license varies depending on the cause it was revoked.
Due to problems in another state
You may lose your privilege to drive in Alaska because your license or privilege to drive is suspended, revoked or canceled in another state.
Your electronic record must be clear in the other state before you are eligible to obtain a license in Alaska.

To get your license back following a cancellation of your driving privileges, you need to contact the Driver Service office at (907) 269-5551 when your out of state record is clear.
Driving while your license was revoked, suspended, denied or canceled (DWLR/S)
To get your license back following the loss of your driving privileges, you need to apply for a new license at your local DMV office and meet the following requirements:
- Pass the written and vision tests
Please note: You may need a road test as well - Pay the reinstatement and license fees
- Submit written proof of SR-22 insurance
- Present proof of birth and identity. See license requirements for acceptable documents.
- If you are under 18 and won't have a parent or guardian present, bring a notarized Parent Consent (Form 433)
After Medical Cancellation
To get your license back following the loss of your driving privileges, you need to apply for a new license at your local DMV office and meet the following requirements.
- Pass the vision tests
Please note: You may need a written and road test as well - Present proof of birth and identity. See license requirements for acceptable documents.
- If you are under 18 and won't have a parent or guardian present, bring a notarized Parent Consent (Form 433)
- A letter signed by your doctor stating that the medical reason for why your license was canceled is under control or you no longer have that medical problem. It will also need to say that you can safely drive.

After points suspension

Please Note: In order to receive a reduction in points, please complete a defensive driving course.
For defaulting on a promissory note
Default means that you have not made the payments you agreed to make for damages you caused in a collision.
To get your license back following the loss of your driving privileges, you need to apply for a new license at your local DMV office and meet the following requirements.
- Pass the written and vision tests
Please note: You may need a road test as well - Pay the reinstatement and license fees
- Present proof of birth and identity. See license requirements for acceptable documents.
- Submit written proof of SR-22 insurance
- If you are under 18 and won't have a parent or guardian present, bring a notarized Parent Consent (Form 433)

Pay full amount you owed
Present a notarized general release from the person you made the payment to
Make payments over time
Present a signed and notarized promissory note that shows you agree to make payments to all the people who need to be paid

After an unsatisfied judgment
To get your license back following a suspension for unsatisfied court judgment, you need to apply for a new license at your local DMV office and meet the following requirements.
- Pass the written and vision tests
Please note: You may need a road test as well - Pay the reinstatement and license fees
- Submit written proof of SR-22 insurance
- Present proof of birth and identity. See license requirements for acceptable documents.
- If you are under 18 and won't have a parent or guardian present, bring a notarized Parent Consent (Form 433)
- Show proof that you have paid for the damages caused by the collision with one of the following:
- Pay full amount you owed
Present a notarized general release from the person you made the payment to
Paying the judgment in installments
Present a signed and notorized stipulation to pay judgement in installments from the civil judgement creditor.
or
Present a court order showing court orderd payment plan.
