IBU Ratifies Three-Year Agreement with State of Alaska
August 26, 2014, Juneau, AK – The Inlandboatmen’s Union of the Pacific (IBU) members have voted to ratified a three-year contract with the State of Alaska covering the period of July 1, 2014 through June 30, 2017. The provisions of the new contract that were ratified by members are retroactive to July 1, 2014. IBU has around 650 members and constitutes nearly 76% of all ferry workers statewide.
“We appreciate the hard work that went into the agreement that was ratified by the overwhelming majority of IBU members who voted, almost 80%, in favor of approval,” said Alaska Department of Administration Commissioner Curtis W. Thayer. “That so many members of IBU voted for ratification validates that this contract is a fair deal to ferry workers and an acknowledgement of where the overall state budget climate requires sustainable agreements similar to the contract approved by members of IBU. We look forward to working with the remaining two ferry unions to reach ratification.”
