Manager Self Service (MSS)
The Manager Self Service (MSS) module of IRIS Advanced was implemented in February 2022. This module allows State supervisors (managers) a convenient way to review information for employees who report to them as determined in the position hierarchy structure defined on positions. MSS is available through a secure online portal accessible both inside and outside the State network.
Through MSS, managers may:
- View employee profile information, including:
- emergency contact
- address information
- work schedules
- View compensation data
- Approve timesheets (if your agency uses ESS for timesheet submission)
- Review Merit Anniversary Dates (MAD)
- Review leave balance information
- View Employees' Assigned Tasks

- View Organizational Charts
Access to MSS
MSS is available to all active State employees and may be accessed via the IRIS website or at the following URL: https://iris-ess.alaska.gov.
To login to MSS, employees will use their 6-digit Employee ID and enterprise password. If you do not know your employee ID, you may locate it using the Enterprise directory Advanced Search (accessible only from inside the SOA network). The user will need to change their business role from Employee to Manager in the upper-right corner where the user name is displayed in order to access MSS.
