The Division of Motor Vehicles titles motor vehicles, including trailers and mobile homes; registers motor vehicles, including trailers, snow vehicles, powered and non-powered boats, and All Terrain Vehicles, and licenses drivers statewide. The Division serves most of the Alaska population over 16 years of age by providing evidence of motor vehicle ownership and by issuing driver licenses to those qualified. The Division is also responsible for the administration of the safety responsibility law, driver improvement point system, and the collection of motor vehicle registration taxes.

Emission Inspection Program (I/M) in the Municipality of Anchorage (MOA) is scheduled to end March 1st, 2012.
Residents of the MOA who renew their registration before March 1st, 2012 are required to have an emission inspection.
In honor of Alaska's veterans, the Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has coordinated efforts with Fort Wainwright and state and local law enforcement agencies in the Fairbanks North Star Borough (FNSB) to issue registration extensions to military personnel returning from their tour of duty whose vehicle registrations may have expired during deployment.
Attention CDL Holders
On January 1, 2012, the Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) will begin requiring a current medical examiner's certificate before issuing an original, renewal, or duplicate commercial driver's license (CDL). This requirement comes from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT)
Effective January 1st, 2012, Kotzebue will no longer be exempt from registration, title and mandatory insurance requirements. Please register and insure your vehicle (car, truck,snowmachine, ATV) as soon as possible to assure you meet the deadline and avoid a citation.
