Introduction

This webpage contains information for State of Alaska employees to request changes to their Legal Name, Published (Display) Name, and email address.

Legal Name Changes

Current State of Alaska employees may provide notifcation of a Legal Name Change in the IRIS Employee Portal. A job-aid is available to guide employees though the steps to request a legal name change.

Helpful Information:

  • An employee's legal name must match the information on file with the Social Security Administration.
  • Legal name change requests are pending until certified by the Division of Finance Payroll Production Team. The name change will not be visible in IRIS or the Employee Directory until certified. Processing turnaround for submissions can take up to three business days.
  • If an Employee Information Change Form (EICF) transaction is pending in IRIS, an employee will not be able to submit another request until the pending transaction is finalized.
  • The employee's Directory User ID must match the employee's legal name. If the employee's legal name has changed, an update will be needed for their Directory User ID. Directory Administrators with the Office of Information Technology (OIT) will receive a notification that an update is needed for the Directory User ID, but it is helpful that employees also request an update of their Directory User ID through the AlaskaNow Help Desk. Updates from IRIS to the directory are suspended until an update to the Directory User ID has been made.

Published (Display) Name Changes

The employee's preferred Published (Display) name is not maintained or modifiable in IRIS. This information is maintained in the State Employee Directory and will need to be requested through the AlaskaNow Help Desk. OIT Directory Administrators can modify the employee's published name and email address as requested.

The only exception to this is when the employee is first added to the directory as due to a prehire transaction entered in IRIS. Authorized users in IRIS can edit the Published (Display) name when entering the prehire information to be interfaced with the State Employee Directory.

Contact Information

Executive Branch employees may contact the Employee Call Center with any additional questions that you may have. You may contact the Employee Call Center at (907) 465-3009 or EmployeeCallCenter@alaska.gov.
